What I Am Enjoying While I Wait For Spring

These are the winter days that I start to feel like the cold may never end. Of course, I know it will or I wouldn’t be planning my garden or daydreaming about summer sunsets if I truly thought winter was forever. Instead of dwelling on the endless icy roads and frigid temperatures I'm shifting my focus and making a list of little comforts, cozy moments and what I'm enjoying while I wait for Spring. I hope you find something in common or maybe a little inspiration to make this season lighter.

1. Lemon + Balsamic dressing

My sister recently traveled to Copenhagen (yeah, I'm still jealous). While she was there, she had a salad she loved. She said it was a light salad with balsamic and lemon juice on it that gave it a fresh flavor. She enjoyed it so much she started putting that on her salad at home and convinced me to try this combo. It just so happens we had lemons in the house, so I grabbed a balsamic vinaigrette from Meijer. She was right! Somehow the lemon tones down the tang of the balsamic dressing, like spring vibes in the form of salad dressing. I love that she brought home a piece of Copenhagen and shared it with me.

2. Learning Embroidery

I keep joking that I don't need a new hobby but honestly, I do. I'll never be bored when I retire or the rest of this frozen season. The moms in my book club decided to embroidery and we all plan to embroidery a design for each book we read this year onto a canvas bag or sweatshirt.

I started practicing a fun little design. I pulled out my old friendship bracelet string box. Then, I bought these printable sheets on Amazon that dissolve in water once you're done embroidering your design. I linked the printable sheets I used because they made getting started so much less intimidating, especially if you’re new to embroidery or getting back into it after years away. Where were these fancy things when I was younger? My cross-stitch designs would've been so much cooler. I already had looms in my craft supplies, so I set to work choosing a design. Embroidery is so satisfying. The world slows down just a bit and I get lost in the methodical stitches. This new hobby is an unexpectedly peaceful way to pass the time.

3. Short Stories

With so many hobbies, short stories are a perfect little read. Or when you're in a reading rut and want to quickly fall in love with the characters and have a guaranteed happy ending, short stories do the trick. Here's a few I've read and enjoyed. If you subscribe to Kindle some are free!

Accidentally Yours by Christina Lauren

The Exception to the Rule by Christina Lauren

The Fall Risk by Abby Jimenez

4. These pajama pants!

A co-worker friend ordered several pairs of these pajama pants and loved them so I added them to my wish list, like I do with so many things. I linked them for you just in case you’re also always warm at night or just love lightweight, comfortable pajamas that don’t feel bulky. I love a good recommendation before I buy. Then, my husband referenced my Amazon wish list for Christmas (Kudos to him) and ordered me a pair. I need 5 more, at least. They're super soft and lightweight, which is perfect because our bedroom is very warm, so I am too warm in my usual sweatpants.

5. Comforter and Sheet set

When our bedroom was complete, we bought a new bedframe (we sold the old one because it was too big and bulky) so, naturally we had to get a new one. We also wanted to get new bedding that would fit the room better than our geometric shaped teal, gray, white set. We went with a creamy beige colored comforter set but honestly, all the color options are beautiful. You must check them out yourself, so I linked them for you. The whole set, including the sheets is cozy! My inspiration for this room is slowly coming together, and I am so happy with the comforter and sheet set we ordered.

6. Reading, always reading.

I received the most exciting news I've received in a while! My work started A BOOK CLUB! And it wasn't even my idea! We found out at our big new year meeting. It's things like this that keep me cheery and upbeat in the Winter.

Our first read of the year is Atomic Habits by James Clear. We met at a local coffee shop called Community House, which I already love, and enjoyed a warm drink while we discussed the first two chapters of the book. I have always loved discussion surrounding books but, this is so fulfilling! Our agency owner even gives us questions in advance that lead to good conversations.

Winter still has its grip (if you're in Michigan, you know), but making space for small joys has changed how these days feel for me. Instead of wishing time away, I’m noticing what’s right in front of me: a fresh lemony dressing on my salad, the quiet rhythm of embroidery stitches, a short story that makes me smile, or curling up under a cozy comforter. Spring will come when it’s ready. Until then, I’m choosing to enjoy this slower season, one comforting thing at a time. If you’re also counting down to warmer days, I hope this list reminds you that winter can still hold a little beauty, even while we wait.
